2009 Scholarship Award Recipients:

North Bergen – attending Rutgers University
Angel Andujar is currently a junior attending Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey, pursuing a Public Health major. Helping children has been one of Angel's greatest passions. After graduation, he will continue his graduate studies to become an Occupational Therapist and specialize in pediatrics.
Rockaway – attending Passaic Community College
Camilo Arteaga graduated from Morris Hills High school on 2008. He is now attending Passaic County Community College, majoring in engineering sciences. He plans to get his associate degree and then transfer to NJIT to get his bachelors in civil engineering.
Union City – attending Montclair State University

Ashley Cintron was born in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico and has lived in Union City, N.J. for 5 years. She is currently a senior in Emerson High School and will be attending Montclair State University in the fall to pursue a degree in business. Although she has faced many obstacles in her life, they have made her stronger and more determined in making her dreams a reality. Ashley plans to work very hard and will make it a priority to help others in her community who are facing the same challenges..
Cliffside Park – attending NJ Institute of Technology
Daniel arrived from Peru six years ago and will graduate this Spring from Bergen Community College with an associates degree. He plans to continue his education at NJ Institute of Technology. One of Daniel's many goals is to help other young Hispanic students, like himself, achieve academic and professional success.
Bridgeton – attending Montclair State University
Diana Flores is a 2009 graduate of Bridgeton High School. With a GPA of 4.48 and ranking number 3 in her class, she will transfer the dedicated, hardworking student to Montclair State University where she will major in Geoscience. She hopes that she has made her mother, father, and younger brother proud with her accomplishments. Diana feels extremely grateful to all who have donated, and especially grateful to the judges for believing that she was worthy of this incredible scholarship—she promises to continue to be a hard working student that serves the community.
Jersey City – attending The College of New Jersey
Loribel Mulero was born in Bayamon, Puerto Rico. Not born with a silver spoon, she has always had to run the extra mile to get where she has wanted to go. College is the next logical step and she knows her hard work will pay off. Loribel’s mother has always stressed upon her that a good education and a good sense of self are paramount to success. Ms. Mulero is interested in pursuing a degree in Pathology. She has strong cultural values and wants to work hard for herself, her family and her community.
Paterson – attending Rutgers University
Natalia Muza was born in Santiago, Chile and came to this country with her family four years ago. She started studying at Passaic County Community College and transferred to Rutgers University where she is pursuing her Bachelor’s in Biomedical Engineering. When she completes her degree, Natalia wants to work in the prosthetics and rehabilitation field. She hopes to help her community by providing improved medical devices.
Secaucus - attending Felician College
Silvana Rivas is currently a junior at Felician College, where she is pursuing her bachelor’s degree in Nursing. Her goal is to acquire a Master’s degree and become a Maternity Nurse Practitioner. She is passionate about helping others and making a difference in their lives. She is determined to reach her goals and dreams, and make a difference in the community.
2009 Book Stipend Award Recipients:
Union City – Bergen Community College
Diana Contreras came from Ecuador three years ago determined to pursue a business career. She is a sophomore at Bergen Community College, completing an Associate’s Degree in Economics. Ms. Contreras currently works two part-time jobs while enrolled as a full-time student. Diana believes that all battles in life teach us something, even the ones we lose. Once she accomplishes her goals, Diana plans to return the help she has received by helping people in her community to achieve their own goals.
